Halloween in Tivoli

If you are not a fan of huge spiders, spiderwebs, and other scary items, then avoid the Copenhagen amusement park as it certainly has embraced the American Halloween tradition. However, the 22,000 pumpkins used for decorations are a visual delight.

For the past 18 years, Halloween has been added to the old amusement park’s normal summer season; the old park opens in October in time for the Danish schools’ autumn holiday.

This year is no different and all the rides will be open 3 November, if the weather is nice, it can be a good excursion for adults and children alike.

This year at the Danish Pumpkin Championship last Saturday a pumpkin of more than 1,115 kg won the competition, an all-time high.

The Danish producers compete to find the largest pumpkin of the breed Atlantic Giant, some even import Canadian seeds to improve their chances, and this year special attention led to the growth of the winter.

After the championship from 24 to 27 October they will be carved out to form gigantic lanterns, ready for Halloween.

The carving takes place in front of the hotel and brasserie NIMB.

Another fun event taking place as Halloween gets closer is the Monsters’ Night Out on 19 October when more than 200 dressed up monsters take part in the Copenhagen Zombie Crawl parade when it passes through Tivoli.

Even if you are not one to try many rides it can be a nice autumn excursion and when the sun shines, the park is really beautifully decorated and a delight to stroll through.

If you want to have look in without paying the entrance fee, remember the outside terrace in front of the Tivoli food hall will again be open, allowing a nice view inside.
