Important renovations close Aarhus Central Station for 11 days from 16 to 27 January– this means no direct trains to Aarhus during this period.
If you were planning to visit Aarhus by train this will affect your travel plans as you will have to change from train to bus to be able to reach Aarhus. Also, all northbound traffic from Aarhus to for instance Aalborg will be closed for three months.

The reason are important renovations and renewals of tracks, signal systems and even a bridge at Aarhus Central Station.
These reconstruction works require the total closure of all tracks. The 10-day period of total closure should enable Banedanmark (company responsible for all train tracks in Denmark) to install the new signalling system, to complete the rebuilding of tracks 4-7 , begin the renewal of tracks 2-3 and rebuild several bridges outside of banegraven.
The reconstruction of the railway has been underway since 1 April 2025 and several tracks have already been renewed; preparations have been made for the new signalling system to be put into use.
The aim is that by the end of 2026, a new and modern railway will be ready for electric trains to run on the main line in East Jutland.

From the evening of the 16 to the end of 27 January, there will be no DSB trains to and from Aarhus, while GoCollective will suspend traffic from the 16 to the 25 January. From week 3 to week 16, all train traffic from Aarhus to the north is also blocked.
“We have come a long way since the spring 2025, when we started the project, and we have succeeded in managing traffic sensibly in fewer lanes. However, much of the upcoming work requires that there are no trains, and therefore we will block completely from the evening of 16 January to the 25 and DSB will resume traffic on the 28. During the closure of the trains station we put full speed on the pedal and will be working around the clock on all tasks, so that we make the best use of the closure. It will not be fun for the passengers, but the closure is necessary for us to be able to complete the project,” says Project Manager at Banedanmark, Helle Thambo.
DSB and GoCollective deploy train buses
From the evening of the 16 to 27 January all DSB traffic will be replaced by train buses, and the same applies to traffic northbound until week 16. The buses will run from Banegårdspladsen in Aarhus to several cities to the south and north.
DSB encourages passengers to keep themselves updated during the period:
“DSB encourages customers to use Rejseplanen, which has been updated with the changes. It is important to be aware that the extent of the use of train buses varies over the period from 16 January to 19 April. On weekdays during the day, we will deploy direct train buses that run without stops, medium-speed buses that stop at the largest stations, and stop buses that stop at all stations,” says DSB’s information manager Tony Bispeskov.

During the period when rail replacement buses run to and from Skanderborg more than half of the parking lot in Skanderborg will be used for the buses.
Therefore, DSB encourages passengers arriving by car to drive to Horsens, where a temporary parking lot has been established south of the station. There will be signs at the station showing the way to the parking areas.
GoCollective will also deploy rail replacement buses on their routes between Aarhus and both Hinnerup and Skanderborg – stay updated via the Journey Planner and the screens at the stations.
Passengers travelling between Aarhus and Skanderborg should pay special attention to the fact that all GoCollective rail replacement buses on this route will stop at both Hørning and Viby J.
In the northbound direction, the rail replacement buses will run to/from Hinnerup, where GoCollective trains run to/from Viborg and Struer via Langå.
