Cheer the King on his birthday Sunday 26 May at 12:00

It will be a first for the new Danish King Frederik, it is his turn to be cheered on his birthday as his mother Queen Margrethe was 52 times during her reign. A very popular event at the time of his mother, it will most likely be just as popular for the new King and Queen and their family.

For the past 52 years it was normal procedure for H.M Queen Margrethe to come out at 12:00, the same procedure will be repeated for H.M King Frederik who will appear at 12:00 on 26 May to be greeted by the assembled crowd.

He will be be greeted first and then his whole family will come out. Most likely his mother Queen Margrethe will appear as well, however this has not been confirmed.

As this year his birthday is on a Sunday and it is the first time, the crowd is bound to be large.

Go early to get a good “seat”, in other words, get to stand as close to the balcony as possible.

The Royal Guard’s band will be playing and Danes will be waving Danish flags.

In general it’s a festive and great experience, certainly if you don’t mind crowds, and hopefully it will retain that special Danish relaxed style – letting people get close to the balcony without a large safety perimeter being put up.

When: Sunday 26  May at 12:00 Amalienborg Slotsplads – Copenhagen.
